Mellow Mushroom, a delectable and energetic pizza shop based in Atlanta, will open its doors in Pigeon Forge on May 10, 2010. Robert McManus and Darby Campbell, local restaurateurs with more than 25 years in the Eastern Tennessee restaurant business, saw an opportunity in Pigeon Forge for the fun and funky pizza bakery, as they observed the tourist destination was lacking a quality pizza establishment. Campbell and McManus spent more than 2 years finding a prime location and developing a store that represents the easygoing community while maintaining the “bohemian-chic” atmosphere and quality food that is synonymous with the Mellow Mushroom name.
Located at traffic light 2A between Magi Quest and the Inn at Christmas Place, Mellow Mushroom features a large menu offering a delicious assortment of pizzas, salads, hoagies and calzones with many vegetarian options and true “meat-eater” bill of fare, and a bar that boasts 12 beers on tap and more than 42 others in bottles. Mellow Mushroom’s “groovy mountain lodge” atmosphere includes large windows looking out onto the Smoky Mountains, a huge fireplace with giant lava lamps that represent flames, and whimsical taxidermy animal heads lining the walls. The energetic yet comfortable atmosphere makes it a great dining option for local residents and visitors.
“More than 11 million visitors from all over the world come through Pigeon Forge every year” said Pigeon Forge Mellow Mushroom Director of Operations, Tom Horne. “Mellow Mushroom’s welcoming, groovy vibe will fit right into the Pigeon Forge community and I know that residents and visitors alike will fall in love with the food and atmosphere.”
The Pigeon Forge Mellow Mushroom seats 262 people. There are fourteen large plasma screen TV’s throughout the restaurant for those looking for a fun place to watch the big games. The restaurant will also host a variety of programs and events including a Tuesday trivia night.
