ATLANTA, April 17, 2023 — Mellow Mushroom has won the inaugural 2023 “Keg Champion Award” from the Steel Keg Association (SKA) in the Regional Restaurant Category. The new awards program was created by SKA to celebrate leading restaurants, bars, and breweries for embracing the remarkable benefits reusable steel kegs deliver: sustainability, efficiency, and a fresh consumer experience.

“Mellow Mushroom has had an environmental and sustainability focus since we were founded in 1974, from our recyclable pizza boxes to our vegan menu options,” said Anne Mejia, VP, Brand Development, Mellow Mushroom. “Mellow Mushroom is honored to be recognized by the Steel Keg Association with this inaugural ‘Keg Champion Award.”

Across the Mellow Mushroom collection of restaurants, more than 7000 unique draft beers were poured from steel kegs in 2022. In addition, the company offers a vegan menu, uses recycled pizza boxes, has transitioned to recycled paper bags and paper straws, and eliminated all single-use plastic containers.

LYNCHBURG, VA, March 21, 2023 – On Wednesday, March 22, staff and volunteers at Horizon Behavioral Health will be the first beneficiaries of Mellow Mushroom’s recent “Pie for A Pie” community effort. On Pi Day (March 14), Lynchburg area residents heard the call and purchased pizzas in support of this initiative to support the healthcare community. Mellow Mushroom – Lynchburg will deliver pizzas to Horizon Behavioral Health staff at a special luncheon on March 22 at 11:30 a.m.

The pizza lunch will be delivered to Horizon Behavioral Health staff at its 999 Lakeview Drive location.

“This community has supported our Mellow Mushroom since we opened a few years ago and we feel it is important for us to give back to those who work so hard to keep us all healthy,” said local Mellow Mushroom store co-owner Brit Campbell. “We’re grateful to our neighbors for supporting us so we can support these important community members!”

Ocala, FL, March 13, 2023 – Construction on a new Mellow Mushroom restaurant began in historic downtown Ocala, Florida. The new location will be located at 2 SW Fort King Street, Ocala, in The Goldman Peek building and site of the former historic Cloeman building. Local restaurant entity Harddy, LLC will own and operate Mellow Mushroom Ocala. This is the first restaurant Harddy, LLC has opened with Homegrown Industries of Georgia dba Mellow Mushroom.

Mellow Mushroom Ocala will be 4,793 square feet with 128 interior seats and 28 seats on the patio. Like all Mellow Mushroom locations, this one will have its own unique style and decor. Some of the highlights will include an interior mural by artist Ruben Ubiera, out of Miami, FL, and an exterior neon sign.

Workers and volunteers at Horizon Behavioral Health and Johnson Health Center (JHC) will be the beneficiaries of Mellow Mushroom’s “Pie for A Pie” community effort. On Pi Day, every pizza purchased (dine in, to go, online) turns into one pizza pie donated to staff and volunteers at the two healthcare providers.

Pizzas must be purchased on March 14 from the Mellow Mushroom – Lynchburg location on 1220 Greenview Drive.

“This community has supported our Mellow Mushroom since we opened a few years ago and we feel it is important for us to give back to those who work so hard to keep us all healthy,” said local Mellow Mushroom store co-owner Brit Campbell. “We’re encouraging our neighbors to join us for lunch or dinner at Mellow Mushroom on March 14 so we can support these important community members!”
