Mellow Mushroom Owensboro - The Story

Located in a building built in the 1800s, the building highlights the history of Owensboro. The building has been used for banks, churches, night clubs, bars, and diners. It has always been a focal point of the community and continues as such today. The artwork is representative of the building’s history. A portrait hangs on the wall and depicts the old, popular Burger Diner with its owner and founder. From the building’s first purpose, the original bank vault door also hangs on display on a wall. The interior features brick and wood with earth tones and additional artwork that is reminiscent of the fun relaxed Mellow vibe. One wall is covered in antique mirrors in all different sizes. A large oval table has a beam that cuts through the center and displays abstract metalwork with colored wine bottles and black iron swirls. Above the bar is antique yellow molding with green trim. The private dining room, dubbed the “Music Vault,” is filled with incredible musically-inspired art pieces.

About Mellow Mushroom Owensboro

Located in the heart of Downtown Owensboro near Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, the Owensboro Convention Center, and Riverpark Center, the restaurant has been a favorite since 2016. Our guests come in regularly for the very best pizza, cold beer, craft cocktails, a fun atmosphere, and a great time! We are proud to support community events.

I was passing through town, and saw they had a location near the hotel. I had heard about the chain, but never had been there. Grabbed a couple pizzas to go. Service was quick, staff was friendly, and the place had the "cool" vibe they seem to try to achieve. Pizzas were good. Toppings were plentiful and seemed to be of good quality. Crust had a great flavor and was crispy on the outside and chewy on the interior. It was not cheap, but I would definitely visit this, or one of their other locations, again.

Nice restaurant in the downtown area of Owensboro just a few blocks from the Ohio River. A wonderful atmosphere in a building that used to be a bank and still includes the vault. Delicious pizza with a ton of different speciality pizzas and create your own options. We got Pretzel Bites as an appetizer with the spicy beer cheese and the Holy Shitake mushroom pizza. Both were great, definitely recommend.

Wait time was VERY long, but in their defense came to eat on a very busy day with lots of events going on that week bringing in out of town visitors. Pizza was great, got, fresh. Nice environment.

Yummy pizza and a cool atmosphere! The cheese was yummy and the toppings were plentiful! Service was okay, the place was busy, but our wait time wasn't long. It's a good place to go for some good food!

My kind of place! The ingredients are top quality, they even use spring water for the dough, the selection on toppings is amazing. Great beer. The ambiance is on point, there's a lot of great art around including shirts and hats designed by local artists AND a gigantic mushroom outside which makes for a great photo opp!
