Mellow Mushroom Tuscaloosa - The Story

Blending Alabama pride with local culture and a love of music, the store represents the city of Tuscaloosa, the University of Alabama, and bands like Grateful Dead and Widespread Panic. A large marquee-style Mellow sign lets diners know they’ve arrived, and they’re greeted with a lit steel column and an 11-foot metal elephant statue. Inside is a full wall mural of white skulls in crazy glasses with red flowers coming out of the mouths. Another full wall mural celebrates the late great Bear Bryant. Above the bar are letters that light up spelling RTOTA (a war cry for Alabama fans). One large communal table has a variety of stickers covering every inch. Large firehouse doors open up to a colorful patio with high walls and string lights that create a beer garden feel.

About Mellow Mushroom Tuscaloosa

Located near the University of Alabama, the restaurant has been a favorite since 2019. Our guests come in regularly for the very best pizza, cold beer, craft cocktails, a fun atmosphere, and a great time!

We have been here a few times. The food is consistent which is refreshing. The place is vibrant and colorful. The service could be better especially when it’s slow. It’s on the higher side when you’re thinking about value for money.

Big open seating restaurant. Awesome service and yummy food. Loved everything we ordered.

Very nice place. Everything looked nice, the food was hot and we got it fast. They had enough help which is rare these days. Server was very attentive.

Mellow Mushroom was awesome today! It was a special day where 8-year old daughter picked the place. Not crowded at 3:30pm! Fun atmosphere. Good beer selection. Outstanding pizza (try the Merry Prankster); kid loved the cheese bread. Servers were friendly and professional. Lots of tables, some have booth seats. Big bar. Good place for large parties. Lots of outdoor seating. Highly recommend!!

Excellent food with pretty attentive staff. I’ve always felt welcomed here. The food can get a bit pricy though.
