Mellow Mushroom Athens - The Story

Inspired by local artists and our hometown Georgia Bulldogs, the store has a mix of eclectic art and school spirit. There are plenty of TVs across the top of the huge wraparound bar for fans to cheer on the dawgs. A Mellow Mushroom sign made of old gas station signs hangs above the wooden booths. The walls are covered with various artwork from local artists. Statues of the Georgia mascot, UGA, are proudly mounted throughout the store. The restaurant is in a 100-year old building matching the historic, collegiate vibe of Downtown Athens.

About Mellow Mushroom Athens

Located near the University of Georgia and Georgia Theatre, our restaurant has been a local favorite for almost 10 years. Guests come in regularly for the very best pizza, cold beer, craft cocktails, a fun atmosphere, and a great time! We are proud to support local schools, sports teams, and community nonprofits.

I've been to several Mellow Mushroom locations before now, but really liked the look, atmosphere and overall location of this one. It's located right in the heart of Downtown Athens and has a tall and open feel. The servers were very attentive and friendly and were quick on orders. As a side note, I ordered a LIl Greek and forgot how big those were because I was practically full by the time my pizza came out! Great place to stop for a drink and meal when in Athens.

I really have enjoyed Mellow Mushroom pizza since moving to the south. You can actually taste the mushrooms! They use truffle sauce. It's ridiculous good. Each of their restaurants have a unique feel and original art. It may be a "chain" but it certainly didn't feel like one. Our family liked talking with their employees. Very friendly and conversational. Favorite pizza place. 😊

We rented their event space for a surprise birthday party and we were so pleased! Room was just as described. Event/catering coordinator Brooke was a pleasure to work with, and our server Katie went above and beyond to take care of all our guests. I would recommend Mellow Mushroom Athens to anyone looking to host an event!

Matthew is the best waiter there is. We came for the National Championship and he was super caring and kept us updated on every part of our order. If not for him, I don’t believe I experience would have been as great! This mellow is awesome and thank you Matthew for being an awesome waiter!
