Mellow Mushroom Boone - The Story

The restaurant captures the rustic feel of high country living. The exterior of the building features wood siding, cultured stone, and dark metal lights. A timber-frame awning over glass doors creates a dramatic entrance to the restaurant. Inside, the large, inviting space celebrates the outdoors. The focal point is a giant fireplace made of local stone and created by local climbers. A large mural of a nighttime mountain scene is painted across one wall, adding to the outdoorsy feel. Mellow-inspired sculptures, including a bike-riding mushroom character, add a playful touch to the space.

Located near Appalachian State University and Tweetsie Railroad, we’re a favorite of both locals and students. Guests come in for the very best pizza, cold beer, craft cocktails, a vibrant atmosphere, and a great time! We’re proud to sponsor local sports teams and events.

Very good pretzels and pizza, nice interior, quite a bit larger than the Winston-Salem location. I thought dough was better in Winston for some reason. Maybe I'm crazy. It wasn't bad, it just seemed...different. Overall, an excellent meal, great customer service. No wait on a busy Friday afternoon.

We come to this location every single time we are in town and they never disappoint us! We love getting the wings and build your own pizza. Service is always great. Highly recommend!

Great place! Very glad I found it. We have one in Charleston and I think this one might be better. Great atmosphere, the gentleman behind the bar was awesome! Service was great, friendly and fast! Easier to grab a seat at the bar than wait for a table for one. If you like cider, defintely try the blood orange cider from Austin East! Really good. My food was so very good as well, try the meatball hoagie.

Always a unique experience, but I miss the Mellow Mushroom from 10 years ago. Menu prices seem to keep going up and up. Rather pricey to add toppings to pizza. Since we have vegetarians and vegans in our family, Mellow does satisfy the different diets. We ordered a pizza with tofu cubes one time but were very disappointed the next trip when they said they no longer offered tofu. Instead, they offer tempeh . If you’ve never tried tempeh, this version is nothing like cubed tofu. It’s very seedy and seems slimy. Would not ever order that again. The large pizza does not seem very large, especially when compared to Boonies Pizza sizes. I left 4 stars b/c of the pricing . For a family to eat and have drinks, the bill averages upwards of $70.
