Mellow Mushroom McKinney - The Story

The restaurant’s theme is a road trip through time in McKinney. The exterior of the brick classic building features a colorful throwback Mellow Mushroom sign. Inside, the restaurant features wood panels, exposed brick, and wall murals painted by local artists. Panels painted to look like road signs hang from the ceiling, and a totem pole sits in the center of the dining room. Light fixtures made from oil drums and others inspired by classic gas stations round out the road-trip design.

About Mellow Mushroom McKinney

Located near Collin County History Museum and Heard-Craig Center for the Arts, our restaurant has been a local favorite since 2013. Guests visit us for the very best pizza, cold beer, craft cocktails, a vibrant atmosphere, and a great time! We’re proud to sponsor local sports teams and events.

Stopped in Friday night around 8pm and it wasn't busy, we didn't have to wait, for a table for 2, at all. Nicole was our server and she was awesome and very attentive. She remembered our orders with no pad. The food was delicious, all of it. The drinks were pretty strong and tasty as well. They do have a bunch of vegan options and beer options. There was parking behind the building and a parking garage farther back if it's too busy.

The dining area was bigger than it appeared from the street. While most establishments in the town square were packed, we were seated quickly on this busy Friday night. The dining area was hip and fun with booths and tables to choose from. They can easily accommodate large groups. The bathrooms were a little rough, needing some attention.

We loved our experience at Mellow Mushroom! The ambiance was fun and the food was great. We got the Pacific Rim pizza and Cobb salad. The pizza was delicious and a unique taste we both enjoyed. The service was so friendly. We will definitely be back.

Amazing atmosphere and pizza! If it sounds good to you it probably is. The BBQ chicken and mushroom pie are both tasty! I was super excited to get the pretzels. They were sadly lackluster and tasted like crust. We dubbed them Crust Knots. We saw the salad and wings on other tables and they looked pretty top notch too! 👌

If I could do a 3.8 I would rather do that. It was a mix of good and bad. First impression upon getting to our booth was great vibe, loved the trippy menu design, lighting was mellow. Loved the vegan options. Like the layout woth the bar area being seperate from the dining and kitchen area. The food took a really long time to come out even though there were only like three other tables. The Pretzels were pretty dang overcooked but the Thai Chili Wings were absolutely delicious. The marinara was really tasty. The pizza and calzone would have been so, so, so good but desperately needed seasoning and the calzone came back without any chicken in it. It was an add on ingredient we requested. We were refunded that amount. The alcohol selections were good. They had Lakewood Temptress, one of my favorites. I think it’s possible there were some young or new employees who just need more practice and experience. Awesome concept and I’ll still be back to try again.
